Dog Commands

The current issue of Cothrom includes a list of dog commands in Gaidhlig. I thought as folk are always asking this, it would be worth printing them here.

I myself tried out a few with my dog (when I had one). Sometimes he'd respond better to the Gaidhlig ones than the English!!! There was a story a few years back of a dog that only understood Gaidhlig... could be useful if you're training up a guard dog.

1 - Fuirich - (FOO-rich) - Wait! Stay!
2 - Thig! - (heek/hig) - Come (with me)!
3 - Suidh! - (SOO-ee) - sit (or "Dean suidhe!)
4 - Briosgaid! - (BRISK-atch) - Biscuit, here's a biscuit.
5 - Spog! (spawk) - Give me your paw.
6 - Laigh! (lie) - Lie down
7 - Fag (faak) - leave, don't touch etc
8 - Trobhad! (TROE-ud) - come to me.
9 - Faigh (Fye) - fetch!

On De a Nis a month or two ago there was a dog and the little girl said "clì, deas,clì, deas," and it put it's paws up onto her hands.
