Hi first post,dont know if i am doing this right never mind learning a language, I have wanted to learn for ages but no one else in the family are interested plus I am disabled and the medication I am on makes my memory pretty bad so this is gonna be very hard though I am gonna give it my all.Good luck all.

Halo, Is mise Breandán. Well I am kinda late posting here. I have been a member of the fòram for awhile now. I don't post often mostly because I can't follow the threads. Anyway, I want to make this the year that I make a greater effort to try and get past that perpetual beginner stage. I am currently taking lessons through AGA and have a local learners group that I attend once a week. So wish me luck and hopefully my posts will contain more Gaelic in the future.

About myself, I work in an office. I am an engineer. I live in the United States near Virginia Beach (Newport News to be exact). I started learning Gaelic three years ago but I first started learning Irish Gaelic ( I switched when I move to Virginia and found a Scottish Gaelic group). I like playing hurling. ( we are trying to start a team down here).

Cha robh mi fhìn ann am Bhirginia a-riamh. Ciamar a tha an t-sìde agaibh? A bheil i blàth?

I have never been to Virginia myself. What's your weather like? Is it warm?

Tha an t-sìde snog mar as abhiast. Anns an samhradh, tha i teth and bruthainneach agus anns a geamhradh tha i fluich agus fuar. Is fheàrr leam earrach agus foghar.

The weather is nice usually. In the summer, it is hot and humid and in the winter it is cold and wet. I prefer the spring and fall.

'S mise Cairistiona agus tha mi a' fuireach ann an Canada. Bidh mi ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig air an Sabhal Mòr Ostaig ann an Eilean Sgitheanach. Bidh mi ag ionnsachadh air Earran 3 na Cùrsa Inntrigidh (I know there should be a genetive ending here, but we haven't been formally taught the genetive yet). Bha mo seanair a' bruidhinn Gàidlig cuideach, ach cha robh mi a' bruidhinn comhla ris a-riamh.

My name is "Cairistiona" (in Gaelic, anyway) and I live in Canada. I'm studying Gaelic at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on Skye. I'm studying Cùrsa Inntrigidh, Earran 3. My grandfather spoke Gaelic as well, but I never spoke to him (in the language).

I'm very excited to have found this forum and only wish I'd discovered it earlier. As my course intensifies, I find I want more practice time in the language and more information on certain points of grammar, yet can't see to find a good study partner at the school. I even started my own little forum with 58 subscribers, but no one's talking. So I'm really glad that people on this board seem active and look forward to learning/practicing with everyone!

I hope you have suitable clas-fòn times, not in the middle of the night or too early in the morning, with you being in Canada? It's not easy doing a distance learning - congratulations on doing it!
Maybe you can find Skype partners on here - there are quite a few from North America here, whose time-zone would be the same (or closer).

The phone tutorial times are suitable. I am home with the baby all day and study Gàidhlig when she is sleeping.

It's pretty hectic at times (particularly when she's not sleeping), but I'm enjoying it. If I didn't take advantage of this opportunity, I'd never actually learn the language. My final exam for the course is actually due the day I return to work.

Oh, oops. I also meant to ask if there is a specific thread in which to look for Skype partners.
