Fòram na Gàidhlig

He is expressing a wish. Do you know the expression "Guma math a thèid leat"? If you don't have an adjective following, you use "gun" instead of "guma".

He wishes to finite the poem as (because or while?) he's made a pause (?) and he wishes go close his song for ever, is it so?
And then he says that something is wrong that was usually healthy, and the fact forebodes him the death -- a bheil sin ceart?

he wants to finish it because it is become a bit too long.

So my practice partner and I started looking at a short song, Oh Mo Dhuthaich:

O mo dhùthaich' 's tu th'air m'aire
Uibhist chùmhraidh ùr nan gallan
Far a faighte na daoin' uaisle
Far 'm bu dual do Mhac 'ic Ailein

Tìr a' mhurain, tìr an eorna
Tìr 's am pailt a h-uile seòrsa
Far am bi na gillean òga
Gabhail òran 's 'g òl an lionna

Thig iad ugainn, carach, seòlta
Gus ar mealladh far ar n-eòlais
Molaidh iad dhuinn Manitòba
Dùthaich fhuar gun ghual, gun mhòine

Nothing particularly difficult there with some quick dictionary lookups, but one line that did give us an issue was:

Gus ar mealladh far ar n-eòlais

The tr*nsl*t**n (on Celtic Lyrics Corner) was given as "In order to entice us from our homes",

Gus ar mealladh (in order that our deception...) seems clear enough, but then "far ar n-eòlais" seems to mean "where our knowledge (assuming "eòlais" is the genitive of "eòlas" (knowledge)... so I am a bit suspect of the tr*nsl*t**n. I'll have to dig out the CD (The Blood Is Strong Soundtrack) and check the lyrics there.

I could, of course, be looking at this too literally (always a danger when learning I guess) and barking up the wrong craobh

eòlas basically means what you know, what you are familiar with, so here , roughly speaking, his 'home turf', his island and people.

c.f. Dwelly (via Am Faclair Beag): an tìr m' eòlais, in my own country; chaidh e air a eòlas, he strayed to the place he knew before — said of cattle

Ahhh I see.

I am familiar with "eòlach" (as in Tha mi eòlach air...) but I didn't join the dots...
