I found this site http://www.educationscotland.gov.uk/Ima ... 401490.pdf that uses e for the weather. Ie, Tha e grianach.

Earlier in this thread, it was discussed that weather is feminine but possibly e could be used if the underlying meaning was 'the day' (m) is sunny.

Is that why they're using e?

At the foot of the weather page, it says (as a teaching point for teachers) that "weather can be m. or f."

The usual classroom explanation is that the 'e' is for 'an latha', but in fact I suspect that it's just an impersonal use. Like 'it's hard', 'it's funny', 'it's a shame'.

You'll hear both in different regions - both sound right to me, though personally I prefer and tend to use the 'e'.

For when to use "bithinn", think things you do regularly of if clauses.

an alternative version of this word is latha.

Yeah, I knew it was there, I just couldn't type it...

And The dictionary I used must have rolled them both into one with the "EI" So "It" is just gender specific then? He vs she.
