Hiya there,
I was wondering if anyone would be able to help with my son's Gaelic homework. I was giving this site by someone from Scotster.
He's from a non speaking Gaelic house and i have tried to find the words from the Gaelic dictionary but had no luck. There is 2 parts to his homework.
The first is

Cuir crioch air na facial seo a cleachdadh ui air neo ùi agus an uairsin sgrìogh a mach iad:

Finish these words using ui or ùi and then write them out.

try the combinations and then use a dictionary or a good on-line one to check them out, here for example

if you put dùisg into the search you get (among other things):
dùisg /duːʃgʲ/
gn. ag. -sgadh
1 awaken! wake (up)! 2 arouse! raise! 3 flush! (game birds) 4 revive! 5 kindle! 6 dig up!

This way you can help and understand what the words mean too. Good luck

- probably not as thorough as one Gràisg, but reasonably quick and easy its use.

I'm a little puzzled, though, by this wee laddie getting homework like this. I don't mind mine getting anything like it before age about 7 or 8.

Is it a household with no Gaelic that you are or one with no speaking?

My 6 year old has been getting homework like this since the start of P2. Its getting harder by the minute.

I wanted him to learn Gaelic as i find it fasinating to listen too. Plus it gave him another language, and would be easier later on in his school years to pick up another language.

Neither myself or my other half speak any Gaelic, but are trying to learn through my son.

We did go to classes to learn it, but my hubby gave up after a few weeks as the guy that was teaching us was jumping from one bit to the next then going back to what he was teaching us previously, so was kind of confusing, and i never wanted to carry on myself.

Good luck will all the efforts your family are making. Conventional lessons don't suit everybody, There are folk who have trained themselves up to fluency without going to any lessons at all like Tearlach in Alaska who comes on here some times. If you want to try and top up a bit here and there there's some good stuff on-line now like the BBC:

Lynne & family - I'm incredibly envious of you! You're quite right to think that it's the sooner the better as far as learning other languages goes. Where I am (The Kingdom), there's not one school that teaches Gaelic to pupils, primary or high, let alone anything through Gaelic medium. So, while my lad is now - eventually - getting to grips with German (and liking it), he's nearly teenage. And, with knowledge of Gaelic becoming ever more useful, all these young Fifers are being put at a disadvantage by an education authority that sees no point in Gaelic.
