Bha deasbad sa phàrlamaid an-dè mu dheidhinn BBC Alba. San deasbad a bha seo mar fhreagairt do Daibhidh MacThòmais Choir thuirt Peadar Peacock B.P.
‘I have throughout all my political career supported Gaelic. Councillor MacKay is a councillor accountable to her local electorate for what she says or what she sees as the interests of her constituents. She does not speak for me, my colleagues or the Labour Party on Gaelic Policy.’
Saoilidh mi gu bheil i fhathast ag obair airson Mgr Peacock ge-tà ach ann an Saoghal na Laboraich ‘s e càineadh a th’ann gun teagamh Co-dhiù ro làimh thuirt Daibhidh Chòir.
‘It is all the more sad therefore that, at a time when the confidence of Gaelic speakers is beginning to grow, some people chose to attack and vilify Gaelic, under the pretext of disproportionate spending on a minority and the need to make savings.
He said some councillors had jumped on the “misinformed populist bandwagon”, with independent councillors Jim Crawford and Ms Mackay’s father John Rosie, springing to mind.
Highland Council spend just 0.25% of its budget on Gaelic, well below what would be proportionate to the number of Gaelic speakers in the area he said.’
Tha sin ri leughadh sa Phress and Journal an diugh ach chan eil e ri fhaighinn air loidhne an dràsta fhèin (07.05)
