Halò a Fòram na Gàidhlig,
Ciamar a tha thu?
After much searching on the web today and having an interest languages especially Scottish Gaelic and a love of Scottish Folk and Gaelic music - I discovered your website this afternoon - so I thought I’d drop you a line to see if you could help me in my quest to find a penpal who would not only help me learn Gaelic but would also be looking for long term friendship too!!??

Here’s some info about me:
My name is: Nicolas Beaney-Weaver
I’m 45 years young and I am about 1.75m tall with dark brown eyes.
I live in a little village in the county of Nottinghamshire (which is famous for Robin Hood) in the Eastern part of England called Edingley.
My hobbies and Interests are: Surfing the Internet, Music – all types from all over the world – folk, traditional, classic, and pop, I love to learn and learn about different languages, – and I can speak French, Spanish, some German, some Dutch, and a little Danish and Welsh. Learning about different faiths, reading travel books and of course looking after my large garden which is a huge passion of mine – I also like bird watching, botany and nature conservation to name just a few things that keep me busy!!!

Email: nicolas.42@live.co.uk :)

I look forward to hearing from you all soon and hope you can help me with my search!

Warm regards agus Tapadh leat
Nicolais/Nicolas

Ps: If you can’t help do you know of anywhere else that might be able to??

Halò a Neacail,

Fàilte! :D

I'm afraid I have no time to take on a penpal, but you may be lucky yet!

Why not also post on the various Facebook Gaelic pages, e.g.

Gàidhlig na h-Alba https://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_2216292068
Gaelic https://www.facebook.com/Scottish.Gaelic

or the Gaelic section of Scotster:

http://www.scotster.com/forums/scottish ... ge-gaelic/

Also don't forget North America and Australia - there are fluent speakers and good-level learners there too, and a lot of them like the idea of international contacts via Gaelic. Contact their Gaelic organisations:

http://www.foramnagaidhlig.net/index.php?page=28 (scroll down to 'Organisations'):

Skype is a good free way to practise the speaking/understanding part once you have a contact or two.

Maybe try for an internet-based learning partner (or two) first and just see if you get friendship out of it - it may put people off if the likely commitment involved seems too much at the beginning.

Also already make a start with the learning and it will be easier to get going if you do make contact with someone, e.g. via the BBC site Beag air Bheag:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/alba/foghlam/beag_air_bheag/

LOTS of other tips and links in our Goireasan section if you click your way around:

Gur math a thèid leat! Good luck! :D

I think the easiest for you is to post and have a little conversation here. People will maybe respond more easily than taking up a pen pal :)

is dòcga gum biiodh e nas fhasa dhut a sgrìobhadh agua beagan còmhradh a dhèanamh an seo. Is dòcha gum freagair na daoine nas deidheile mar sin
