"Dear Mr MacDonald,
I refer to your Freedom of Information request of 15^th June 2011 in
connection with the mygaelic.com website.
You seek information on the following points and I have set out the data
you requested in a table format and I hope that this answers all your
queries;
* Total expenditure on the initial implementation of the mygaelic web
site, including consultation and overhead fees.
* Running costs, including breakdown of hosting costs.
* Total cost, including breakdowns, in implementing the 'new' mygaelic web
site, which was made public in May 2011
* Evidence showing method by which providers (designers, coders, hosting
companies etc.) were chosen by Bòrd na Gàidhlig to bring mygaelic
(including the new mygaelic web site 'redesign') to fruition.
* Total expenditure on the initial implementation of the mygaelic web
site, including consultation and overhead fees.
Mygaelic.com was launched in February 2009 as a major new information and
networking site, which aimed to be the place to visit for everyone who
wanted to learn more about Gaelic – Gaelic language and culture,
tourism, events relating to Gaelic and, how and where they could engage
with the language. Mygaelic.com was aimed at Gaelic speakers and novices
alike, offering something for everyone with an interest in wishing to
learn more about the language or indeed learning to speak Gaelic.
The development work on mygaelic.com which is part social networking, part
learning and a web-based source of information, took two years and also
represented a major piece of research on the attitudes of users and young
people.

* Evidence showing method by which providers (designers, coders, hosting

(including the new mygaelic web site 'redesign') to fruition.
The mygaelic.com project has been managed since its inception by The
Creative Cell, after winning an open the tender in 2007 to research,
design and deliver the project. With the appointment in 2010/11 of a new
Ceannard (Chief Executive) and Senior Management Team structure, the
decision was taken in March 2011 that the project would be managed
in-house and that the contract with Creative Cell would be terminated from
30^th June 2011. In this way we will continue to derive benefit at
relatively low cost from the earlier investment.
I hope this answers the questions raised.
Yours Sincerely,
Alasdair MacKinnon
