Hamish MacBeth (BBC)

Unread post by Mìcheal Beag »

Greetings from a "new" member, a learner. This is my first post.

If anyone has ever seen the BBC series Hamish MacBeth, I am hoping you can provide some information regarding Gaelic dialogue in Series 3, Episode 3, "The Loch Dubh Assassin". Specifically the scene in which the Glaschu gangsters enter the pub.

I am curious to know what is said to Andy. I have found in SCT-GAELIC root web a "transcription" but what I read in the transcription is not what I hear being said. Then again, I am a learner so I might simply be mishearing it. This situation is made even more challenging due to a severe hearing loss on my part.

Mòran taing.

Have seen some of them but can't remember that one. You'd really need to link to a video of the section and post the transcript. THere are a few snippets on YouTube, but nt that one, it seems.

I'd have to copy the file(s) from the DVD, upload them, etc. My interest was that I was planning to act out the scene and wanted to know what they were saying. I improvised; no one else in the room has any Gaelic knowledge so they did not know the difference.

It can be viewed here from 12:36 to 12:50: http://youtu.be/y9RTDwO2ByM

I think it is something like "Nach eil sibh a' smaoineachadh ... " but I can't quite hear the response myself.

Nach eil sibh a' smaoineachadh sounds right to me, perhaps with something like a bhalaich(i?) after it. The response, to my relatively untrained ears, sounds like glè bhoidheach, dìreach àlainn.
Perhaps if someone more experienced would chime in, though...

Nach eil sibh a' smaoineachadh, a bhalaichibh, gu bheil e bòidheach, dìreach àlainn.

Tapadh leibh a-rithist, akerbeltz! Chuala mise "b" gu ceart ann an "bòidheach", ach bha mi a' smaoineachadh gun robh "glè" san àite "e". Cha do chuala mise "gu bheil" idir. Feumaidh mi obair leis mo chuid èisteachd tuilleadh.

ged a tha a' Ghàidhlig aca sgriosail, ann an cainnt, gheibhear g' eil an àite gu bheil gu tric, 's dòcha gur e sin a thug ort smaoineachadh gur e glè a bh' ann
