Scottish Gaelic in 21st Century: Opportunities & Challenges

Unread post by Lale »

Hi, I am new to the forum. I wish to ask for a tr*nsl*t**n of the title of a paper I am writing. The title of my paper is Scottish Gaelic in 21st Century: Opportunities and Challenges. It would be really cool if I could also write it in Scottish Gaelic. I asked the question at another forum and a very kind person made the following suggestion as well as directing me here. He/she says:
Gàidhlig Anns an 21a Linn: Cothroman agus Dùbhlain.

but... to be 100% sure I think you'd better ask on a Gaelic forum, such as http://www.foramnagaidhlig.net/

(the main problem I have, is that "cothroman" means many different things, so you'd better ask other people to be sure it is not too ambiguous)
If you have any corrections to the above tr*nsl*t**n or if you have other suggestions, I would be very happy. Thank you in advance for all your comments.

Lale

This is correct. I'd make some minor style corrections though:

Gàidhlig sa 21a linn: cothroman agus dùbhlain.

Title Case Is a Specifically English Habit, but if you want to keep it, go ahead. To me, it looks better with lowercase letters though.

It is coming along, I have fallen in love with the language (I have learned so much about its history).

Thank you very much, for your help.

21a? Should be 21mh I'd say, it would be said aonamh linn ar fhichead

Wfft...chan eil mi a' creidsinn. Nochdaidh "aonamh" nas fheàrr dhomhsa. Sa Bheurla tha daoine ag ràdh "twenty-first" seadh "twenty-oneth", ach cha tachair seo sa Chuimris: "ciad" = "cyntaf", "fichead" = "ugain", agus "21mh" = "unfed ar hugain", chan e "cyntaf ar hugain". Sa Chuimris, sgrìobhar "20fed" (ugeinfed) agus "21ain" (unfed ar hugain). 'S dòcha gu bheil mi ceàrr, ach sa Ghàidhlig "aonamh air fhichead" agus "21mh": chan obair a' Ghàidhlig dìreach mar a' Chuimris an seo.

"Where are the twenty first celebrations?" agus "Where are the twenty-first celebrations?" - OBH OBH!

Thug mi sùil air an Fhaclair Bheag agus 's tu a tha ceart :)

ETA: Bhruidhinn mi ri fhear an Fhaclair Bhig 's tha an dithis againn ceart - faodaidh tu an dà chuid "a' chiad X deug" no "an aonamh X deug" a ràdh. Cuiridh e na tha a dhìth ris an fhaclair :D
