Ciamar a tha sibh? Conas atá sibh?

Is mise Tomás. Táim tar éis an Fhóram seo a fháil amach ar an t-idirlíon.
Is Éirinneach mé agus tá chónaí orm faoi láthair i mBaile Átha Cliath.
Ní fíor-Gaeilgeoir mé, is as Chontae Thiobraid Árann sa Mhumhan ó dhúchais mé.

Tá céim agam i Fraincis, Gearmáinis agus Ríomhaireacht ó Ollscoil Luimnigh agus céim múinteoireachta ó Ollscoil Glaschú.

Tá brón orm, níl ach cúpla focail agam i nGaidhlig.

Tapadh leibh :)

Hi everyone,

How are ye all?

I'm Tom. I'm just after coming accross this Forum on the internet. I'm Irish and currently living in Dublin. I'm not a true native Irish speaker, I'm from County Tipperary originally in Munster.

I'll have to excuse myself for the fact that I can't say this in Gaidhlig as I only have a few words of it.

Thankin' ye all,

Tomás

Fàilte às na Stàitean Aonaichte!

I've only been studying Gàidhlig a few months so reading Irish is still quite a challenge for me!

One of my great-grandfathers (my father's mother's father) was a McCarthy from Cork County and he spoke Munster Irish. Sadly the dialect did not survive in my family after my great-grandfather immigrated to Canada (and later to the US) - my grandmother only knew a little, and my father knew none. :?

A number of years ago, I attempted to learn Irish with the help of an Irish seminarian from Limerick who was studying here in the US, but I didn't get far. Now I have more time, so I've gotten much further studying Gàidhlig. I hope to learn more about Irish down the road, after I've acquired some degree of Gàidhlig mastery. :D
