Èistidh mise ri ceòl Gàidhlig neo ceòl Ruiseanach gu tric, ged a 's toigh leam seann cheòl "country" a chluinntinn aig amannan cuideachd. Bha mi air mo thogail leis am fear sin, agus nuair a cluinnidh mise fhathast e, thig mo sheann-phàrantan air m' aire.

Tha fios agam nach eil am briarathchas agad mòr fhathast idir, agus bu chòir dhomh seo a sgrìobhadh sa' Bheurla cuideachd, ach tha mi ro thrang an-dràst. Feumaidh mise falbh. Gur math thèid leat nuair bidh thu ag eadar-theangachadh an teachdaireachd seo, a charaid.

If you like Gaelic music I reckon you've already heard of Julie Fowlis.
If you like country music I can recommend Sturgill Simpson, or perhaps Ryan Bingham.
Personally, I like almost all genres. I'm mostly into classical music and several kinds of metal. But I also really enjoy Jazz, blues, swing, psychedelic rock, some indierock bands (indierock is too broad a genre), anything experimental or ambient, some more obscure genres like darkjazz/doomjazz. One of my favorite things to dance to is electroswing.
Of course I also really like Celtic folk, a nice jig or a reel will do me good anyday. Bands like Silly Wizard and Old Blind Dogs are pretty high up there.

One of the things I hope to achieve with learning The Gaelic is to be able to write a set of lyrics for my band's music in Gaelic.
We play death metal related music, and I don't think there's ever been a death metal band that sports grunted gaelic lyrics.

Still closer to death metal than Julie Fowlis.

There is a Gaelic heavy metal band called 'Armachdan Leir-Sgriosail' (weapons of mass destruction), but I have not managed to find any material to listen to :(
So there we have it: not only do I wish to raise the Gaelic speaker count by 1, I also wish to be the first to air grunted lyrics in Gaelic.

I have never heard of Brian Eno, so I searched it on Youtube and I'm listening to it right now. It's not really the ambient I meant, although this is really calm and great for studying to.
What I had in mind specifically was this:

If you're wondering what the doomjazz was all about:

Chan eil ach dà sheòrsa ciùil ann - ceòl dùthcha agus ceòl an iar... :truas:

What is 'ceòl an iar'?
In fact, what does that entire sentence mean?
there are not only two types of music - country music and...

that's all I got, really

Sorry! I should have said...

Chan eil ach X ann - there is/are nobbut X, or there is/are only X

In this case, X is "dà sheòrsa ciùil", or "two types of music" So, "there are only two types of music".

You got "country music" - but not "western music"... Na h-Eileanan an Iar - The Western Isles

Needless to say, I was not being serious!

From the Gàidhealtachd, I listen to: Adam Sutherland; Julie Fowlis, who I also had the pleasure of seeing live; Mànran, who I am hoping to see live; and Macanta. Aside from that, I have an extensive music collection including classical, jazz, world, folk and popular music.

Seonaidh likes his fealla-dhà no trì, you'll get used to it

The confusion about the term "ambient" music reminds me of the same confusion there is with the term "industrial". At the beginning of the 80s, those meant something completely different.
