Please find below details on Gaelic courses and workshops offered by Sgoil Ghàidhlig an Àrd-Bhaile, the Gaelic Language Society of Halifax, beginning April 2008. Please note night and location change for Beginner/ Intermediate and Intermediate/ Advanced courses.

Gàidhlig aig Baile (Total Immersion Plus)
Beginner/ Intermediate 1
Wednesday evenings, 6:00-9:00
April 16--June 25 (Ten Weeks)
Location: Fort Massey United Church, 5303 Tobin Street, Halifax. Please use the Tobin Street entrance. On-street parking is available.
Instructor: Kathleen Reddy
Cost: $100 per participant.
This course is designed for those who are beginning to learn Gaelic or who already have some competence in the language. The focus will be on learning to speak and understand basic conversational Gaelic through a relaxed, communicative approach that utilizes props, activities, stories and games. Classes are conducted completely in Gaelic. Participants are encouraged to use a personal recording device to record classes for review at home.

This course is designed for those who already have an understanding of basic, conversational Gaelic. The focus will be on learning to speak and understand more complex, idiomatic Gaelic through a relaxed, communicative approach that utilizes props, activities, stories and games. Classes are conducted completely in Gaelic. Participants are encouraged to use a personal recording device to record classes for review at home.

Reading and Writing Skills for Advanced Learners
Tuesday evenings, 6:00-9:00
April 15--June 24 (Ten Weeks)
Location: Kathleen Reddy's house, 37 Cedar Lane, Eastern Passage
Instructor: Kathleen Reddy
Cost: $100 per participant
This course is designed for Gaelic speakers or those who have gained conversational competence in Gaelic through previous courses. The focus will be on learning to read and write Gaelic and discuss Gaelic texts through a relaxed, communicative approach that utilizes stories, poetry and informative texts as well as audio and visual materials. Classes are conducted completely in Gaelic. Participants are encouraged to use a personal recording device to record classes for review at home.

Gàidhlig aig Baile (Total Immersion Plus)
Saturday Workshops
One or two Saturdays a month, 9:00-4:00
Location: TBA
Various Instructors
Cost: $25 per day
Saturday workshops are designed to give learners at all levels an opportunity to increase their ability to speak and understand conversational Gaelic through a relaxed, communicative approach that utilizes props, activities, stories and games. Classes are conducted completely in Gaelic. Participants are encouraged to use a personal recording device to record sessions for review at home.

More information on specific Saturday workshops will follow. Some Saturdays will include a children's workshop as well.

Immersion Week

If there is sufficient interest, Sgoil Ghàidhlig will offer a summer immersion week, as in previous years. This would be a separate event from the planned six-week immersion. Possible dates for the immersion week are:

Tuesday, June 24 to Saturday, June 29 or Monday, July 14 to Friday, July 18.

If you would be interested in attending the immersion week, please reply to this email and let us know which option you would prefer.
