Why is there an 'ar' in DiarDaoin? Why is it not just DiDaoin? What are the origins of the 'ar'?

It's a shortened for of di eadar dà aoine - day between two fast days (i.e. DiarDaoin, since Wednesday is di ciad aoin "day of the first fast" and Friday di h-aoine "day of fast"
