Halo

Started learning Gaelic yesterday (yes really). Because of my pathetic grammar skills, this will be a treat.

Both sets of grandparents spoke Gaelic (scottish born) and both parents spoke a bit (only between themselves).

I speak none (ok, a little tiny bit)

Slainte!

Fàilte! Welcome!

You don't have pathetic grammar skills -- that's a myth caused by the education system.

The only people who have serious problems with grammar are people with serious mental incapacities. Anyone who can speak a language understands grammar.

Consider the following sentences:

I have a __________.
He has a _______ horse.
I _______ every day.

Every English speaker can suggest dozens of words to fill in those blanks, and you can only do that if you know grammar.

If you have difficulty with explanations of grammar, that's because the explanations aren't good enough.

Fàilte bhuamsa cuideachd! :D
Welcome from me too!

Just try things out and ask for help whenever you want.
Everyone learns in their own way and at their own pace.

We have a recent short thread where some learners have discussed how they do it (or did it!): viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3352

This section in general: viewforum.php?f=6
has various threads that may be useful too, where people talk about their experiences with different methods and materials.
