out of place lenition in songs

Why is there seeminly random lenition in some songs? Is it serving some grammatical function or is it purely aesthetics? This might have already been asked so sorry if it has.

"Thuirt iad gu robh chànan feumail" for example

There's just an elided a' in there because robh /Rɔ/ ends in a vowel
