STIRLING Council is at the centre of a storm over Gaelic education for secondary school pupils.

The Gaelic teacher’s post at Wallace High School is currently vacant.

And a Conservative councillor has said plans to transport students elsewhere would be a waste of council and taxpayers’ money for a “small minority of people”.

Parents of youngsters involved say their children, having progressed through the Gaelic education provision at Riverside Primary School, would be left with no follow-on provision in the Stirling area.

One parent called to say she was angry at Stirling Council for not acting to replace the Gaelic teacher.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said: “I have been trying to get answers from Stirling Council about this but I keep getting fobbed off with half-answered questions.

Nuair a bha mi san sgoil, Allamhagh, thuirt iad ma bha mi airson Gàidhlig a dhèanamh gum biodh mi a' dol a dh'Àrd Sgoil Uallais gach latha ann an tacsaidh. Bha tidsear aig Allamhagh ach dh'fhàg i ann an 2003 - bha corr is 20 daoine a' dèanamh Gàidhlig.
