Ross-shire: Challenge on Gaelic's future

Unread post by Gràisg »

Ross-shire Journal

'THE Gaelic language will come under the spotlight at two contrasting meetings in Ross-shire next week.
The Easter Ross branch of An Comunn Gaidhealach has warned it is on the brink of collapse due to dwindling numbers and will next week stage a last-ditch bid to get things back on an even keel.
The challenges faced by senior stalwarts behind the group, which was set up to promote Gaelic language and music, will be all too familiar to those hampering countless other groups struggling to bring in fresh blood. Scarcely a week goes by without some community group issuing a plea for fresh blood.
Ironically it is the opportunities offered by tapping in to the language which come under the spotlight at a meeting the following evening, on Tuesday, in Ullapool.
Broadcaster Roddy MacLean is expected to reveal how a knowledge of the language is now regarded positively as an economic advantage — though of course that won't be news to many fellow Gaels in the media.'

Ma tha an Comunn ag iarraidh "young blood", bu choir dhiubh atharraich.

Tweed, choirs and pokers up your arse will never get young hearts racing.
