The Canongate Wall
Whose voice should be added to the Scottish Parliament’s Canongate Wall?
To mark the tenth anniversary of the Scottish Parliament and ten years of devolution, a new quotation will be added to the Canongate Wall, which forms part of the boundary of the Scottish Parliament building.
The Canongate Wall features 24 quotations of relevance to Scotland and the Parliament. Carved on a range of Scottish stones by Gillian Forbes and Martin Reilly, the quotations range from well-loved pieces of poetry to proverbs and psalms. There are quotations in English, Gaelic and Scots and many of Scotland's leading writers are represented.
The new quotation will be unveiled on St Andrew's Day this year. Meanwhile, a panel of literary experts including members of the Art Advisory Group will discuss possible suggestions for the new quotation over the coming months.
Using the form below, tell us your suggestion for a quotation relevant to Scotland which sums up what it means to be Scottish or have a connection to Scotland. Nominations can be for living or dead writers. So far, no women writers are represented on the Wall.
