Hate mail - magic!

Unread post by Seonaidh »

I got this anonymous letter today. Do you know who sent it? I suspect it’s somebody in the Stirling area. As I do not recollect writing to any newspaper called “Herald” recently (nor can I find a trace of my supposed letter on any web site pertaining to likely papers of that name), I’m wondering whether this is a case of mistaken identity.

Co-dhiù, 's toil leamsa creamh!

MAGiC Movement Against Garlic in Caledonia

It is to be fervently hoped that your ridiculous letter in the Herald last week will bring no response from sensible, level-headed people. Never has there been such a scandalous waste of taxpayers’ money as the Scottish Government’s waste of millions of pounds promoting such an absolutely pointless and useless language and providing pointless roadsigns in that language. This is driven of course by politicians terrified of losing a few votes in the Heelans if they stopped this wastage. The money should of course be spent on such as hospitals etc and the BBC proposal to waste £25m or so on a Gaelic channel beggars belief. If people only understood this wastage there would be an outcry.

If an adult wants to learn this pointless language as a hobby that’s ok but parents such as yourself forcing it on schoolchildren and using / misusing them to promote this nonsense is a crime. And as for the nonsense about public bodies dealing with people in Gaelic – that’s a disgrace. Anyone who speaks Gaelic can also speak our national language, English, so there is no need at all for this scandalous waste of time and money. Thank God it’s ‘no big deal in Fife’.

You may be wasting your time being ‘anxious’ that schoolchildren must be used in this way but sensible people are anxious that they should learn useful languages such as French, German, Spanish, Russian and Chinese (a school teaching Chinese opened somewhere as you will be aware – this is to be applauded). Teaching those languages will help the country’s economy to prosper when people can deal with other countries in their own languages instead of expecting them to speak English all the time.

The Scottish govt should not be wasting people’s hard-earned money on grants to force this nonsense on the unsuspecting children of parents whose hearts rule their heads!!!

In all seriousness, I'd log that one with the polis. They probably won't do anything with it as there's no threat, but it's weird enough that I'd personally want it on record....

yeah i agree with niall b - show it to the police - let them deal with it - they wont be able to do anything probably - unless they were so kind to include an address!! - neither wonder so many letter writers always have a "name and address witheld" clause for the papers...

v sad tho - some right numpties on the go!!
