Rannsachadh luchd-leughaidh 2009 - Reader survey 2009


Tha Comhairle nan Leabhraichean airson barrachd fiosrachaidh fhaighinn air a' mhargaidh a th' ann airson leabhraichean Gàidhlig. Le bhith a' lìonadh a' cheisteachain aca, bidh cothrom agaibh air eàrlas leabhair luach £50 a bhuannachadh. Gabhaidh an ceisteachan Gàidhlig a lìonadh taobh a-staigh 5-10 mionaidean, neo faodaidh sibh tuilleadh fiosrachaidh an toiseach.


Comhairle nan Leabhraichean is researching the market for Gaelic Books. For your chance to win one of four sets of book tokens worth £50 each, you can fill in their reader survey, to help them improve the availability of Gaelic books. It should only take 5-10 minutes to complete. An English version of the survey is available here, for those customers who don't necessarily read Gaelic, but buy Gaelic books.

Even if you've never bought a Gaelic book in your life, you can fill in the questionnaire and tell them what might prompt you to buy in the future.

Chaidh farpais ùr dheilbh, fo stiùireadh pròiseact Cholmcille fhoillseachadh le Ministear na Gàidhlig Micheil Russell. Tha cothrom aig farpaisich a bhith a' glacadh suidheachaidhean agus gnothaichean eadar-dhealaichte ann an Saoghal nan Gàidheal, an Alba no an Eireann.

A major photographic competition, administered by the Colmcille project, aimed at capturing the lives of speakers of Scottish or Irish Gaelic or of the life of the Scottish Gaidhealtachd/Irish Gaeltacht, has been launched by the Minister for Gaelic Michael Russell MSP.

A keen photographer himself, with a long-term interest in various aspects of the history of photography, as well as being accustomed to being at the sharp end of a lens in his Ministerial role, Mr. Russell will be one of the judges casting his eye over the entrants for the 2009 competition.

Prizes of up to £2,000 are available in the competition which is for either colour or monochrome photographs depicting any aspect of the life of speakers of Scottish or Irish Gaelic or of the life of the Scottish Gaidhealtachd/Irish Gaeltacht. There will be five prize-winners in all, in two categories:
ADULT (16+) First prize £2000 /€2200; Second prize £750/€ 850; Third prize £500/€ 565 and
JUNIOR (5-15 on 31/08/09) First prize £ 500/€565: Second prize £ 250/€280.
Each prize-winner will also receive a framed copy of the Tìr Cholm Chille map.

Tuilleadh air làrach a' Bhùird


Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the Gaelic development agency, has welcomed confirmation from the Royal Bank of Scotland that they will accept cheques written in Gaelic.

The Bòrd's Chair Arthur Cormack recently wrote to Royal bank of Scotland Group Chief Executive Stephen Hester to sanction the use of Gaelic in the writing of cheques and following a meeting held in Edinburgh this week, attended by Bòrd and Bank officials, along with Alasdair Allan MSP, The Royal bank has clarified its position and will now be accepting cheques written in Gaelic.
