Tha Glaschu aithnichte do luchd-labhairt na Gàidhlig mar Bhaile Mòr nan Gàidheal - 'The City of the Gaels' - ainm glè fhreagarrach do dh'àite a tha air a bhith na phàirt cho mòr ann an saoghal nan Gàidheal o chionn linntean. Tha deagh aithne air an imrich a b' fheudar tachairt às a' Ghàidhealtachd agus na h-Eileanan san 19mh linn, ach tha nas lugha mothachail gu bheil freumhaichean Gàidhlig a' bhaile mhòir seo a' dol air ais fada roimhe sin. Mun àm a chaidh borgh Ghlaschu a stèidheachadh anns na 1170an, bha an sgìre mun cuairt air a bhith làn Gàidhlig airson còrr air 200 bliadhna. Tha cuimhneachan làidir den seo ri fhaicinn ann an soirbheachadh air còrr agus 100 ainm-àite Gàidhlig taobh a-staigh crìochan a' bhaile san latha an-diugh. Thar nan linntean, tha Gàidheil air a bhith a' tighinn o fhad' is farsaing a Ghlaschu ann an àireamhan mòra, agus air cur ris gach taobh den bheatha sa bhaile. Ach chan eil an dimeinsean Gàidhlig den obair seo an-còmhnaidh air aithne fhaotainn no fiù tuigse - dearmad a tha am pròiseact seo a' coimhead ri chur ceart.
Is e iomairt a th' ann an Glaschu a tha ag amas air cultar na Gàidhlig a chonaltradh nas fheàrr agus a roinn taobh a-staigh baile Ghlaschu. Bidh raon de phròiseactan is thachartasan a' gabhail àite agus a' leantainn suas gun Mhòd Nàiseanta Rìoghail 2019.
'S e làrach-lìn glaschu.net an t-ionad foillseachaidh airson seo - àite tòiseachaidh airson na buaidh a bha aig Gàidheil (agus a tha aig Gàidheil) air a' bhaile, a roinn agus a rannsachadh.
The Book of Deer (Evangelia) is a Gospel Book written in a hand that was current in the period c. 850-1000 and generally dated to the first half of the tenth century. While the manuscripts to which the Book of Deer is closest in character are all Irish, scholars have tended to argue for a Scottish origin, and it is widely regarded as the earliest manuscript produced in Scotland. Of the four Gospels only the text of St John is complete. Each Gospel is prefaced by a full-page illumination (1v, 16v, 29v, 41v). The manuscript belongs to the category of 'Irish pocket Gospel Books', produced for private use rather than for church services.
The association with Deer is deduced from additions in Gaelic or Middle Irish (3-5) including an account of the foundation of a monastery by Saint Columba and Saint Drostan and land grants to the house, and a Latin brieve of King David I in favour of the 'clerics of Deer' (40). One entry is dated 8 David I (1131-32). It is reasonable to assume that the manuscript was at Deer in Aberdeenshire when these additions were made.

In the framework of a number of European project initiatives it has been possible to investigate the development of Scottish Gaelic in local detail for the past 125 years. The studies deal with local communities which were predominantly Gaelic-speaking at the end of the 19th century. Based mainly (but not exclusively) on local population census information the reports strive to examine the state of the language through the ages from 1881 until today. The most relevant information is gathered comprehensively for the smallest geographical unit possible and provided area by area - a very useful reference for people with interest in their own community. Furthermore the impact of recent developments in education (namely teaching in Gaelic medium and Gaelic as a second language) is analysed for primary school catchments.

The Arizona Scottish Gaelic Syntax Project web site is currently in development. It's aim is to provide resources concerning Scottish Gaelic Syntax. Using modern linguistic field techniques Prof. Andrew Carnie and Scottish Gaelic native speaker Muriel Fisher will gather data about the language's grammar and words. The output of this fieldwork will be a web-accessible database of Scottish grammatical structures and a complete descriptive grammar of the language, and subsequent to the grant, teaching materials. In addition, in doing this research a graduate student will be trained in the techniques of grammatical description of an endangered language. This training will allow the student to do similar work on other endangered heritage languages. This work has important implications for documenting and preserving the linguistic traditions of the Scottish and Scottish-American communities.
