First you will need to upload the picture to the internet. You can use a free image host for that, like Photobucket or Imageshack. Make sure the image is not too big, 120 pixels is fine.
Once the image is uploaded, go to your Profile and enter the image's URL in the "Link to off-site Avatar:" field. Hit the "Submit" button, then go back to your profile to check if it shows.

Mòran taing!!!
Thank you very much, GunChleoc!!! Now I understand! I didn't really know how to upload the picture. Now I see how to do it

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering how to get an avatar and decided to look in this section. Well, I'm new to computers and don't understand most stuff!! First: how does one "upload" something? Second: I looked at Photobucket, and don't see how you can do anything for free! If anyone has the patience to explain to me how to put an avatar (in DETAIL) in my profile, I'd be thankful.

If you have trouble with Photobucket, there are a other free image hosting sites available. Just google for "free image hosting" and you'll find something. Maybe other sites will be easier for you to use.

I tried switching on the avatar upload function, but it didn't work. I think it has something to do with the server settings, which I have no control over.

Halò GC. Ciamar a tha thu an-diugh?
Hello GC. How are you feeling today? Pleased to hear you enjoyed the party even if you didnt drink any alcohol.
I'm a little puzzled at the moment; I had tried to get an avatar onto my profile but had been unsuccessful on four or five occasions so far. I have found a website - ( http://www.tinypic.com ) where you can upload images to then get the link that allows you to put them into your profile
Just to let you know, my course tutor is really pleased with my progress so far as I work through each stage of my course. I speak with him every Thursday evening and we go through the work done during each week including conversational pieces.
He thinks that I should pass the exam when the time comes.
Mar sin leat an-dràsta agus mòran taing.

Hello GC. I'm very good today, thank you.
If you ever want to use the web link I gave you feel free. All you simply do is upload to the site then write down the link given for posting pics in a forum etc then type it the appropriate place - it's as easy as that.
