PhD scholarship available

Unread post by Am Portagaileach »

Dear all,

There may be interest in the PhD scholarship advertised at http://www.scholarships.ed.ac.uk/postgr ... oillse.htm.

Applications are sought in relation to the following three research topics (all of them often discussed in this forum, AmP):

1. Language use, competence and attitudes among adults who received Gaelic-medium education.
2. Strategies for promoting Gaelic language use and Gaelic fluency among pre-school children.
3. Successful and unsuccessful practices by public bodies in relation to staff Gaelic language capacity (recruitment and training).

Applicants may also propose a different research topic but this must fit clearly within the parameters of the Soillse initiative and its overarching research themes: Gaelic as a family and community language, Gaelic language use, Gaelic identity and self-confidence, Gaelic in education, and policies for Gaelic.

Applicants should be able to speak, read and write Gaelic. Applicants who do not currently have all these skills will be expected to develop competence in Gaelic such that they can conduct and present academic research through the medium of Gaelic. Appropriate language training will be provided.

Best wishes,

Am Portagaileach

Policies and planning, policies and planning. And still no money for a corpus. Fan-bloody-tastic.

Brudeil, brudeil tioram nam bheachdsa. :mhoire: Nach eil fhios aca 's e coimhearsnachd a dhith oirnn. Chan eil gainnead rannsachadh RLS nar linn-ne. Gheibhear moran leabraichean tomadach air an sgeilp mu thràth.
Na gabh cus dragh, nuair a bhios Gàidhlig marbh buileach glan bidh fada a bharrachd turastal rannsachaidh ri fhaighinn.
The research industry could really get into overdrive then.

'S toil lea seo! Tha "soillse" na bhuidheann poblach nach eil? Agus 's iadsan a bhiodh a' leasachadh sgilean cànain nam feumadh nach e? Co-dhiù, sin "case study" airson an neach-ionnsachaidh - ionnsachadh na Gàidhlig tro Shoillse agus sgrìobhadh PhD air ire do Ghàidhlig an-deidh sin...

Tha mi car "cynical" ma dheidhinn. 'S dòcha gum biodh neach-teagasg Gàidhlig no dhà eile fhaighinn na chosg nas fheàrr na 3 PhDan a mhaoineachadh.
