Feasgar math,

Gu mi-fhortanach sgriobh mi rudeigin an seo an turas mu dheireadh o chionn beagan miosan. Cha robh tide gu leòr agam rud sam bith math (neo rud sam bith math gu leòr!) a sgriobhadh. Bi mi a' leughadh na posts agaibh bho am go am, ge-tà.

Tha mi anns an oifis an-diugh, ag obair. Tha feum agam an-dràsta air uine ghoirid fois. Mar sin, tha mi a' sgriobhadh facal neo dhà.
Bi mi a' feuchainn ri sgriobhadh nas trice.

Good afternoon,

Unfortunately the last time I wrote something here was a few months ago. I didn't have enough time to write something good (or something good enough!).
I read your posts from time to time, however.

I am in the office today. At the moment I need a short break. So, I am writing a word or two. I will try to write more often.

Madainn mhath,

'S e Diardaoin a th' ann an-diugh, agus tha an latha brèagha. Tha mi nam shuidhe anns an oifis agam, ag òl cofaidh, agus a' deananmh planaicheain airson an obair an-diugh. Tha mi a' smaoineachadh gum bi mi glè thrang leis a h-uile rud an-diugh air sgath 's gu bheil mi a' gabhail pairt ann an grunn proiseactan.

Good morning,

It is Thursday, and the day is beautiful. I am sitting in my office, drinking coffee and making plans for work today. I think I will be very busy today because I am taking part in several projects.

Latha math dhuibh uile,

Tha mi ag òl cofaidh, mar is àbhaist.
Mus toisich mi an obair agam, tha mi ag iarraidh beagan Gaidhlig a chleachdadh.
Leugh mi "phrase" an t-seachdain sa chaid a chòrd rium (ged nach eil fhios agam carson!): "an e direach mis' a th' ann, neo..."
Chunnaic mi anns a' phaipear-naidheachd e.

Good day everyone,

I am drinking coffee, as usual.
Before I start work today, I want to practice a little Gaelic.
I read a phrase last week that I liked (altohugh I don't know why I liked it!): "Is it just me, or..."
I saw it in the newspaper.

Madainn mhath,

Tha e trath sa mhadainn agus tha mi a' gabhail bracaist. Tha mo bhean a' deanamh cofaidh an-dràsta. Ged a tha e trath sa mhadainn, tha glè bhlath mu thrath. Thathar ag radh gum bi i teth feasgar an-diugh. Feumaidh mi "air conditioning" a chur air a dh'aithghearr.

-----------------------

Good morning,

It is early in the morning and I am eating breakfast. My wife is making coffee at the moment. Although it is early in the morning, it is very warm already. They say it will be hot this afternoon. I need to turn the air conditioning on soon.

Madainn mhath dhan a h-uile duine,

Abair latha breagha! Tha an latha grianach agus blàth. Bha mi a-muigh beagan na bu thraithe, a' deanamh cuisean mun taigh againne.

Fhad 's a tha mi ag òl tì "iced" a-nis, tha mi a' coimhead a-mach air an uinneig, 's a' faicinn a' chlann air an slighe dhan loch, a tha thairis na sraide.

Fasaidh i teth feasgar an-diugh. Tha mi a' smaoineachadh gum bi a' chlann agus na parantan a' snamh anns an loch.

Good morning everyone,

What a beautiful day! The day is sunny and warm. I was outdoors a bit earlier doing things around our house.

While I am drinking iced tea now, I am looking out the window, and I see children on their way to the lake which is across the street.

It will get hot this afternoon. I think the children and the parents will be swimming in the lake.

Latha math dhuibh!

Bha sinn a' draibheadh eadar New Hampshire agus Masschusetts sa mhadainnn an-diugh. Cha robh mòran traffic ann air an rathad, agus bha an aimisir brèagha. Mar sin dheth, b' e sin turas goirid a bh' ann.

Thadhal an ban-ogha (?) agus a h-athair oirnn as deidh dhuinn tighinn dhachaigh. As deidh sin chaidh mi dhan oifis.

---------------

Good day!

We drove between New Hampshire and Massachusetts this morning. There was not much traffic on the way, and the weather was beautiful. Therefore, it was a short trip.

Our grand-daughter and her father visited after we came home. After that I went to the office.

Tha mi dhachaidh à taigh-seinnse. Mo chàraid ag obair an seo 's an uiribh ghabh e mise saor pinnt-lagair. :ub:

I'm home fro the pub. My friend Iain works there and sometimes he gives me discounted beers.

iorlair: thadhail (from tadhail; tadhal -- verbal noun).

Caoimhin.MacGilliosa: Tha mo charaid ag obair an-seo ('s dòcha gum bi "an-sin" nas fhearr) 's bheir (future from thoir -- give) e dhomh pinnt-lagair saor air uairibh (uaireannan). (Mura bheil mi air mo mhealladh -- if I'm not mistaken)
Slàinte! :)

Madainn mhath,

Poor Mouse: Mòran taing air "thadhail". Tha mi an dòchas nach bi mi a'diochuimhneachadh an ath thuras!

'S e lâ-fèille a th' ann an-diugh an seo. Tha planaichean againn air party beag a-muigh mu mheadhon latha. Tha an t-uisge ann aig an àm seo, ge-tà. Tha e coltach gum fàs e nas tiorame ann an beagan uairean.

-----------

Good morning,

Poor Mouse: Thank you for "thadhail". I hope I don't forget next time!

Today is holiday here. We have plans for a small outdoor party. It is raining at the moment, however. It is likely to get drier in a few hours.

"an-seo", "mheadhan", "nas tioraime" (caol ri caol :) ), "ann am beagan uairean".
Tha mi 'n dòchas gu bheil sin ceart...

Tha Am Faclair Beag ag ràdh gur e "latha-fèill" a tha ann, ged a tha "latha-fèille" san wiktionary.

Poor Mouse: Mòran taing dhut a-rithist, ar-rithist, a-rithist is a-rithist! Obh, Obh!

Bu choir air a bhith fhios agam (?) air "nas tioraime" agus "am beagan".

Chan eil an t-uisge ann an-seo an-dràsta, ged a bha e fliuch na bu thraithe nuair a bha mi a' coiseachd leis a'chù.

-----------

Poor Mouse: Many thanks to you again, again, again and again! Oh no!

I should have known about "nas tioraime" and "am beagan" (Is that correct for "I should have known"?).

It is not raining at the moment here, although it was wet earlier when I was walking with the dog.

Nach math a rinn thu, iolair, às dèidh dhut a bhith air falbh cho fada! Tha sinn toilichte gu bheil cothrom agad a-nis Gàidhlig a chleachadh a-rithist! :moladh:

Haven't you done well, iolair, after being away so long! We're happy that you have an opportunity now to use Gaelic again.

Agus Caoimhin cuideachd - cum ort! :D

And Caoimhin too - keep it up!

Là and latha:

latha is the standard form for 'day' nowadays, but is still often used in the names of festivals, saints' days etc.
Là na Sàbaid, Là Buidhe Bealltainn (May Day), Là na Nollaig etc.

Faoileag: Mòran taing airson do bhrosnachaidh!

Mar a tha fios againn uile, tha am beatha glè thrang aig amannan. Tha mi cianal toilichte gu bheil tide gu leòr agam a-nis Gàidhlig a chleachdadh.
Leugh mi "cianail" leis an fhacal "toilichte" an-diugh. Tha mi an dòchas gu bheil e freagarrach anns an t-suideachadh seo.

--------

Faoileag: Thank you for your encouragement.

As we all know, sometimes life gets very busy. I am awfully happy that I have enough time now to use Gaelic.
I read "cianail" with the word "toilichte" today. I hope that it is appropriate in this situation (as an intensifier).
