Hello I was hoping somebody could help. I am looking for a tr*nsl*t**n of the word ceòlach. I was told it means musical I would like to know if this is corect and also whether it is Irish or Scots gaelic I cannot find an awful lot when I do an online search. I am aware ceol is music. Also if anybody could help with the pronounciation I would be most grateful - many thanks.

Re: Assistance
It's correct in Scottish Gaelic (I do not know about Irish); look here Am Faclair Beag.
Maybe you'll find some other interesting words!

Thank you for this. Is anybody able to help with correct pronounciation. I was told it would be similar to KYAWL ACH does that sound correct? It was the ach part I was unsure off as I was also told it would sound similar to KYWAL Atch.
Thank you.
Thank you.

Re: Assistance
It really is not possible to indicate Gaelic pronunciation using English syllables, it's like asking someone to redraw Monet's waterlilies using an H5 pencil
You will get a garbled version that most native speakers won't recognize without much gesticulation.
It's really worth your while learning a bit of the IPA (which the Faclair Beag gives). Also, while ceòlach doesn't have a sound file, if you search for ceòl, that one does have a sound file so between the two, you should get a better idea.

Do, or do not. There is no try.

Re: Assistance
As for -ach, search "boireannach": then on the left ("Faclair Beag Results") you'll see the word with transcription, and if you put the mouse on it, you'll hear how it sounds.

Thank you for this it was really helpful and thank you re:the pronounciation. I did learn very basic Gaelic at primary school so did not think it was atch pronounciation but wanted to double check. Many thanks.
