Tapadh leat, a Luchag Bhochd. Bidh mi a' leughadh mu 'mu.' Chan eil mi air Gàidhlig a leugh mòran oir tha mi thrang. Tha mòran cèilichean nan Stàitean Aonaichte againn! Chaidh mi, mo phiuthar agus m'athair a Dhùn Èideann an-dè airson chèilidh air tìdsearan nan Stàitean Aonaichte. Bha mòran spòrs againn. Bha mi ag ràdh Gàidhlig, agus chòrd e riutha gu mòr.

A fhaoileag, chuala mi do phost an-dràsda! Tapadh leat. Bidh mi ga sgrìobhadh san leabhar-nòtaichean agam. :)

Thanks, poor mouse. I will read about 'mu.' I haven't been studying much Gaelic because I am busy. We have a lot of American visitors! My sister, dad and I went to Edinburgh yesterday to visit American teachers (from a few years ago... not sure how to say that). We had a lot of fun. I spoke Gaelic, and they liked it a lot.

Faoileag, I just saw your post! Thank you. I will write it in my notebook. :)

Chan eil mi air Gàidhlig a leughadh mòran... or maybe 'gu mòran'?
Or maybe: chan eil mi air mòran Ghàidhlig a leughadh.
Or: Chan ann mòran a tha mi air leughadh den Ghàidhlig (chan eil mi cinnteach...)

...tha mi trang.

Nach eil seo math dhà-riribh gun robh thu a' bruidhinn Gàidhlig, a Mhairead!

It's really good that you spoke Gaelic!

I wasn't sure whether or not to aspirate trang. I did it because I'm female. Is that not standard when referring to yourself? Would you, for example, say 'Tha i thrang' but 'Tha mi/thu/sibh/sinn/iad trang' regardless of gender?

No, you only lenite for feminine when the adjective is directly attached to the noun, e.g. caileag thrang - a busy girl
But: Tha a' chaileag trang - the girl IS busy.

Tha mi trang, tha i trang, tha e trang.
Tha a' chaileag bheag a' leughadh. Tha i trang!

In that sentence with 'mòran', you could say either ' air mòran Gàidhlig a leughadh' OR 'air G. a leughadh ro thric'.

Mòran taing. Tha mi a' tuigsinn a-nis. :)

Uill, chan eil mi cho thrang a-nis oir fhalbh aoighean againn. Tha sìth agam rè greis... gu ruige an oilthigh. Bidh mi a' leughadh mòran Gàidhlig as t-samhradh seo.

Thanks. I understand now. :) Well, I am not so busy now because our guests left. I have peace for awhile... before university. I will be studying more Gaelic this summer.

Latha math dhuibh,

Tha mise gle thràng sna laithean seo cuideachd. Cheannach sinn taigh ùr o chionn ghoirid agus tha torr rudan ri dhèanamh. Mar eisimpleir, feumaidh sinn peinteadh, a-muigh agus a-staigh.

Agus tha e gu math tràng far a bheil mi ag obair. Tha proiseactan rannsachaidh gu leòr a' dol adhart aig an am seo. Tha mi toilichte le sin. Tha e nas fheàrr torr obair a bhith againn.

----------------------
Good day,

I am very busy these days, too. We bought a new house recently and there are a lot of things to do. For example, we need to paint, outside, and inside.

and it is really busy where I work. There are plenty of research projects going forward at this time. I am happy about that. It is better to have a lot of work. [That last bit was a guess. Is there a better way to get that across?]

Halò, Iolair. :) Agus meal do naidheachd! Tha taigh ùr glè mhath. Tha taigh ùr againn cuideachd (uill, ùr an uiridh) agus tha mòran bogsaichean agus pròiseactan againn fhathast. Gun déid leat! Càite am bheil thu ag obair?

Hi, Iolair! And congratulations! A new house is very good. We have a new house too (well, new last year) and we still have a lot of boxes and projects. Good luck! Where do you work?

Mòran taing dhut, a Mhairead!

Tha an garaids againn làn bogsaichean fhathast cuideachd! Chan eil mi cinnteach cuin a bhios sinn a' cur gu crìoch "the unpacking". A dh' aithghearr, tha mi an dòchas.

Tha mi ag obair faisg air Boston (tha sinn a' fuireach anns na Stàitean), ach gu-fortanach tha craobhan timcheall air an togalach anns a bheil mi ag obair.

================

Thank you, Mairead.

Our garage is still full of boxes, too. I don't know when we will finish unpacking. Soon, I hope.
I work near Boston (we are live in the States), but fortunately there are trees around the building where I work.

Tha mi às na Stàitean cuideachd, ach chan eil Boston; tha mi à Wisconsin ('s motha tha 's nach eil). Tha mo cho-ogha a' fuireach ann am Boston, agus that mo phàrantan às an Ear (Nuadh Eabhrac). Cha robh mi air riamh ann am Boston, ge-tà. Tha mi a' fuireach ann an Alba oir tha mo phàrantan aig obair aig an Oilthigh Chill Rìmhinn.

I am from the US too, but not Boston; I am from Wisconsin (more or less). My cousin lives in Boston, and my parents are from the East (New York). I've never been in Boston, though. I live in Scotland because my parents teach at the University of St Andrews.

What do they teach? I have decided upon studying in Scotland next year, either St. Andrews or Edinburgh.

Chan eil iad ag ionnsachadh feallsanachd, a Choempa (ach tha nàbaidh againn ga h-ionnsachadh). Tha m'athair ag ionnsachadh eachdraidh eaglaise (eachdraidh manachail gu h-àraid) ann an Sgoil Diadhachd. Tha mo mhàthair ag ionnsachadh daonn-eòlas; 's e leughadair a tha innte, agus tha i a' sgrìobhadh mun Inca agus na khipu aca. 'S toil leam an t-Oilthigh Chill Rìmhinn gu mòr, agus bidh mi a' tòiseachadh an-sin as t-Sultain. Bidh mi a' leughadh eachdraidh meadhan-aoiseil.

Tha Gàidhlig anns na clasaichean na h-oidhche sa' Chill Rìmhinn. Chan urrainn dhuibh a bhith ga h-ionnsachadh ann an cùrsa. Tha mòran Gàidhlig aig an t-Oilthigh Dhùn Éideann. 'S e baile bréagha ann an Dùn Éideann. 'S fhearr leam Cill Rìmhinn, neo-ar-thaing. ;)

Ciamar a tha an latha-saor agad ann an Alba? An do chuala thu no an do bhruidhinn thu Gàidhlig?

They don't teach Philosophy, Coempa (but our neighbour does). My dad teaches church history (monastic history in particular) in the School of Divinity. My mother teaches anthropology; she is a Reader, and she writes about the Inca and their khipus. I love St Andrews, and I will be starting there in September. I will be studying medieval history. ... Gaelic is in the evening classes at St Andrews. You can't study it in a course. There is more Gaelic at the University of Edinburgh. Edinburgh is a lovely city. I prefer St Andrews, of course. ... How is your holiday in Scotland? Did you hear or speak Gaelic?

Bha an latha-saor agam glè mhath, ach tha mi ag an taigh an-nis. 'S e gradh mo chridhe Alba. Tha mi glè chianalach an-dràst.
Bha mi a bruidhinn Gàidhlig ann Alba, an t-seachdain gus an-dè. Bha mi a bruidhinn le Dughlas.
Is toil leam Dùn Èideann gu mòr, agus bha mi a' coinneachdainn caileag ghlè snog. Chan eil Gàidhlig aca, tha mi a' smaoineachadh. Tha sinn a' bruidhinn air Facebook.
An Là na Sabaid gus an-dè chaidh mi gu Eaglais anns a Ghàidhlig, glè inntinneach.
Bidh mi a' leughadh air an t-oilthigh ann Alba an ath-bhliadhna!

My holiday was very good, but I am at home now. Scotland is the love of my heart. I am very homesick now.
I spoke Gaelic in Scotland, last week. I spoke with Douglas.
I love Edinburgh, and I met a very nice girl. We speak on facebook.
Last Sunday I went to the church in Gaelic, very interesting.
Next year I will study at a university in Scotland.

Obh, glé mhath!! Càite an do shiubhal thu ann an Alba? An deach thu a Chill Rìmhinn? An do bhruidhinn thu Gàidhlig anns na h-Eileanan Siar? Cha robh mi air riamh anns na h-Eileanan Siar, ach b' toil leam. 'S e Ìleach a tha ann an daoine aig co-obraiche agam, agus bidh sinn a' bruidhinn Gàidhlig a dh'aithghearr.

Oh, awesome! Where did you travel in Scotland? Did you go to St Andrews? Did you speak Gaelic in the Western Isles? I have never been to the Western Isles, but I would like to. My coworker's husband is from Islay, and we will be speaking Gaelic soon.

- A note: Chan eil Gàidhlig aice (not aca) for 'She doesn't speak Gaelic' (you have 'they don't speak Gaelic').

Madainn mhath,

'S e Latha na Sàbaid a th' ann an-diugh. Tha mi an dòchas gu bi latha samhach againn. Bha a caran tràng an-dè, agus bu toil leam a bhith dèanamh rud air choiregin taitneach an-diugh. 'S dòcha gum bi sinn a' draibheadh tron duthach san fheasgar.

Good morning,

Today is Sunday. I hope we have a quiet day. Yesterday was kind of busy, and I would like to do something pleasant today. Maybe we will take a drive through the country in the afternoon.
