Gaelic spending is not a waste

Sir, I refer to the anonymous writer of the letter entitled "Majority bearing the cost of Gaelic profligacy".
What does he/she mean when saying the general public do not want the language to be reintroduced into their lives?
Gaelic was our language long before English and it has stood the test of time.
It is part of our culture and just as worthy of financial help as the provision of teachers and interpreters employed to teach English to migrant workers.
If Highland Council is £20 million in the red it has only itself to blame. It should get its priorities in order.
Nobody asked the council to spend £300,000 on fireworks last year, and who flogged off the Three Graces, had to buy them back for £15,000 and now thinks a further £10,000 should be spent on consultants' fees for advice on where the statue should be sited?
How much money has been doled out to support all the PR surrounding a "phenomenon" that has not been proved to exist? (Sorry Nessie!).
Gaelic was around before we were born and it will still be around long after "anon" is pushing up the daisies!
