At the invitation of the Highland Homecoming, Watercolour have put together a trail of six gigs from Thurso to Ardgour featuring artists long-associated with the legendary studios and like-minded musical friends. A tag-team of solo and duo gigs, intimate house concerts and ceilidhs from Thurso to Ardgour during the last weekend in October will lead up to the grand finale at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness on the 27th October, where all four bands will take to the stage.
'Sruth ri Steall' is the Gaelic description of the power of the meeting of like minds, very much the ethos of Watercolour - and the musicians reflect the shared passions for language, tradition and the forging of new music and ideas.
Heading the cast are the finest male Gaelic singers of a new generation - Mary Ann Kennedy & Na Seoid includes James Graham, Gillebrìde MacMillan, Alasdair Whyte and Norrie MacIver in their number. Alongside them are the 'waywardly brilliant' songs of Findlay Napier and the Bar Room Mountaineers. Joining the squad will be jazz guitar maestro John Goldie and his new band line-up which draws on some of Scotland's top traditional music talent; and from Mull, rising stars, the Sorren MacLean Band with their unique brand of intelligent indie songwriting.
The new studios on the shores of Loch Linnhe are the fulfilment of a lifetime's careers in the music and recording industry for Mary Ann and Nick. Set in a beautiful open location just a couple of miles from their old home in Ardgour, the new purpose-built studios combine the essence of the original Watercolour with improved technical specification and layout, luxury accomodation and unrivalled views of Ben Nevis and the surrounding area.
