'Money being "frittered away" on
research, says former Bord chair'

WHFP, 18.12.09

...Duncan Ferguson's comments
came after the unveiling of a £5.29
million scheme to create four
research posts tasked with charting a
way forward for the development of
Gaelic...

...He added: "I am among a growing
number in the Gaelic world who are
growing impatient about the lack of
direction from either government or
Bord na Gaidhlig with respect to
taking forward the language four
years after the Gaelic Language Act.

"I welcome investment in research
on Gaelic but that cannot be frittered
away on more attitudinal surveys on
learning the language – that is
laughable in the current economic
context. In a time of public spending
cuts, I am very concerned that
funding is not being directed to the
front line of jobs in education, adult
learning, broadcasting, journalism,
the arts etc....

Tha e cuideachd den bheachd gum bu chòir Fiona Hyslop sùil a thoirt air dhìth teistealachd (lack of credibility) aig a' Bhòrd.

Uill mar a thuirt mi roimhe nach tuirt Uisdean Mac'illFhinnein air Aithris na maidne:

"'S e an rud mu dheireadh tha mi a' smaoineachadh a tha a dhìth air saoghal na Gàidhlig 's e rannsachadh, agus mion-sgrùdadh agus co-labhairtean 's a h-uile càil eile. "

"'S e an rud a tha a dhìth an-dràsta adhartas pragtaigeach, agus adhartas a tha bunaideach agus cuideachail, gu h-àraidh ann an roinnean leithid foghlaim far a bheil iarrtas phàrantan a' sìor nochdadh,"
