'Is this what certain members of the Gaelic ‘Community’ want to do to Gaelic then? Preserve it in aspic so it stays as it is forever? Never changing, developing, growing? Just generally evaporate away till it s a mere dried up speck on a cupboard shelf somewhere? Something which becomes a topic of future conversation – “Gaelic? Oh yes , I remember the days when my great granny used to speak that – she brought it out on a Sunday and then put it away till the next time people came to the house. Wasn’t it something to do with a song called Calamine Lotion or something…..” (no disrespect intended towards one of the best Gaelic singers of all time).

I have yet again today had another example of why so many people, businesses and organisations have been put off using Gaelic in their day to day affairs. It is not putting it too strongly to say that they are scared of incurring the public wrath of sections of the Gaelic community because their attempts at trying to encourage the public usage of Gaelic, the usage of Gaelic on the High St, the usage of Gaelic in the media and on the Internet, are too often criticised and lambasted because the grammar may not be absolutely perfect, or they have dared to change words or use a more contemporary word or phrase to express what they’re trying to say.'
