Gàidhlig group on 'Facebook'!

Unread post by ScotiaBalach »

Ok, I thought it would be nice to have a Gàidhlig learning group on facebook so I made the 'Gàidhlig Learners Association':
http://www.facebook.com/video/?add&oid= ... 831&ref=mf

Anyone who wants to be a group moderator, please e-mail the group at:
gaidhlig.learners.association@gmail.com

Hope you like it!!

That's fine. Seriously the only reason I do it is to connect with friends in Botswana and to keep in touch with the goings-on in places like Scotland.

Sorry, but due to my limited knowledge of the Gaelic language I couldn't understand what you said, do you mind repeating it in English please?

You're confusing two things here.

"eolach" is an adjective knowledgeable/knowledgeful, so A bheil thu eòlach air....
whereas
"eòlas" is the noun "knowledge", so A bheil eolas agad air....

(SB -- it means "do you know", more or less. There's a few complications around it, but that's the gist.)

'S e aithne, tha mi an. Carson? Dè mu dheidhinn i?
(I'm supposing I said:)
Yes, I do. Why? What about her?

(Wouldn't 'an aithne dhut...' be a good way of saying 'Do you know...'?)

(And feel free to correct me, that's how I learn)

Yes, I do.
There is no "yes". There is no "I do". There is only something in between: "do".

So if the question was "An aithne dhuit...?", the answer would be simply "'S aithne." (No "e".)

As the question was "A bheil thu eòlach air...?" or "A bheil eòlas agad air...?"

The answer would be simply "Tha."
(Wouldn't 'an aithne dhut...' be a good way of saying 'Do you know...'?)
That's what I thought up until a year ago. I am now completely and utterly confused by the whole thing.
