My name's Emeline, I'm a 20 yeared-old french student. I study finnish at university and languages are my passion. I'd like to learn some Gaelic. I don't speak gaelic at ALL, I'm just very curious :)

Madainn mhath Polga,

Fàilte chridheil ort dhan Fhoram, a warm welcome to the foram.

Gàidhlig - 'S e cànan alainn a th' ann - It's a beautiful langue
Here's something someone I know wrote about Gaelic in French

La pomme la plus haute

Certains croient déjà
Qu'on la parlait dans le jardin
Le premier jardin
Le Paradis
Et que les fleurs la parlent encore

Cette pomme la plus haute
Ce langage d'une nation
Une nation en renaissance

Cette langue parlée seulement
Sur les lèvres d'un pour cent

Mais à côté d'une montagne
Et de tous les bijoux du monde
Ses mots scintillent plus brillants
Chacun, comme une lumière
À travers la belle Écosse

Elle s'accroche par un fil
Son destin est peut-être décidé
Mais aujourd'hui, je peux encore partager
Ses trésors vivants

Écoute sa magie
Viendras-tu sur la piste de danse?

...or as they used to sing last time I was in Llanbedr, "Un dydd ar y tro, Iesu melys"... (don't try that at home - it's Welsh).

Anyway, Polga-Dot Emmeline, what is so hard about the pronunciation? Mind you, having watched that wonderful French series we sometimes have repeated here "Allo Allo", French people seem to find English every bit as hard to pronounce as English people do French. Mais peut e^tre c,a n'est pas la me^me avec la Gaelique (qu'est-ce que c'est le franc, ais pour "Gàidhlig"?). Just remember that something like "còmhla" would probably be best written in French orthography as "conle".

The prononciation itself has nothing very special (quite hard, but it's ok), but the writting is soooo far from the prononciation ...
"Gàidhlig" is "gaélique" in french :)

Mun perhe on ranskalainen. Mä rakastan pohjoismaata ja erityisesti suomea... mutta kukaan ei ole suomalaista perheessäni ^^
Halusin oppia latviaa, mutta nyt pidän enemmän suomesta =)
